The NSN issue ...

Zop,

<< NSN is now a profitable business, which Nok seems interested in continuing. >>

... and I hope they (think they) will. They will however seek a consortium of equity partners. The partners Nokia will need to put together are likely essentially the same as those partnering with Michael Dell (which of course include Microsoft. With or without Microsoft I suspect putting this together is well advanced. Hats off to Elop and Ihamuotila for playing a role in finally bringing NSN to profitability.

<< Msft could buy a piece of Nok, thereby contributing enough cash to enable Nok to buy out Siemans and firm up the relationship with Msft. >>

They could. The mechanics make more sense for Microsoft to take an equity stake in the Network enterprise which could be spun eventually if warranted. It's simpler. It would be a much more sensible, less expensive, and cleaner arrangement than taking a stake in the Nokia parent and they could leverage the stake to advance an already solid strategic relationship that's working well the way it sits. A few Billion would do the trick.

While I haven't had a position in MSFT which was a core hold for me in the nineties for over a decade nuut if I held MSFT I'd be much against them buying Nokia.

JMHO & FWIW
