Also, at least before the recession, the decline of the middle class was both

1 - Greatly exaggerated by almost anyone who talks about it

2 - As much or more from middle class people moving up, then from moving down.

3 - To the extent there was moving down it was often moving down relative to standards that moved up. Many people struggle to meet what they view as a middle class lifestyle today, but a middle class lifestyle today is a higher standard of living than what was considered a middle class lifestyle in say the 50s or 60s.
