MegaDrive Systems Announces Support for New 10,000RPM Cheetah
Fibre Channel Drive Modules from Seagate Technology

CHATSWORTH, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 2, 1997--MegaDrive Systems Inc., a leading manufacturer of
high-performance, scalable, fault-tolerant digital media storage solutions, Tuesday announced support for new 3.5'' 9GB
10,000RPM Cheetah Fibre Channel drive modules, now available from Seagate Technology, in its Aria Fibre Channel disk
array.

The new 10,000RPM Cheetah Fibre Channel drive modules provide data transfer rates over 21MB/sec, 2.99 msec latency
and an average seek time of less than 6 msec.

When integrated in the Aria Fibre Channel disk array, the new Cheetah drive modules provide significantly enhanced
performance for the most demanding image-based applications, including professional video and graphics, imaging, modeling
and visual simulation, as well as data warehousing and data mining applications.

Tests in the MegaDrive Engineering laboratories validate performance increases reported by Seagate. For example, an Aria
Fibre Channel disk array with four 9GB Cheetah drives connected to an SGI O2 workstation outperformed a similarly
configured Aria with four 9GB Barracuda (7,200RPM) drives by more than 24 percent.

''With this announcement of support for the new Cheetah Fibre Channel drive modules from Seagate, MegaDrive Systems
once again offers our customers the latest in high-performance mass storage technology, as well as the widest array of options
when configuring a system,'' said Bob Woolery, director of product marketing for MegaDrive Systems.

''The acceptance of Fibre Channel technology is growing at a staggering pace, and our Aria Fibre Channel disk array, along
with the new Cheetah drive modules, provides not only industry-leading performance, but also delivers on our commitment to
provide a performance upgrade path for all of our products, as these new Cheetah drives are backwards compatible with Aria
legacy storage,'' he added.

Aria Fibre Channel disk array features include:

200MB/sec full duplex point-to-point throughput
GaAs Loop Resiliency Circuits (LRC) for on-the-fly hot-swapping

of drive modules

Support for 10,000RPM Cheetah Fibre Channel drive modules
Optional built-in four-port copper hub
Active low-noise Fibre Channel backplane
Dual-arbitrated loop support for full redundancy
Up to 72GB per enclosure with daisy-chaining for multi-terabyte

capacity using 9GB drives

Software-based RAID data striping and mirroring
Up to 126 devices on a single loop; 16 million devices in a

switched fabric

Support for both 3.5'' and 5.25'' drives in the same array
Auto drive sensing and sequential spin-up
Front panel controls include drive ID selection and

drive spin down

-- 10,000 meter maximum cable distance
