In the Newsweek Extra edition on The Power of Invention. Under How We Heal: The Furture is an article entitled "Surgeon, Drop That Scalpel" with a subheading, "Just as the 20th century has brought us more powerful treatments, the 21st seems poised t deliver gentler ones."

LGND is mentioned indirectly via LLY: "Eli Lily and Co. is developing a new class of drugs called selective estrogen receptor modulators (SERMs), which are designed to help postmenapausal women ward off osteoporosis and heart disease without increasing their risk of breast and uterine cancer, as today's estrogens do."

The article closes by saying : "But if current trends continue, the techniques of the 21st century will make ours seems as quaint and barbaric as blood letting."
