It's curious.... Reviewing this conversation, it appears that people like me recognize better the complexities of the issue... and speak in terms of live contradictions and paradoxes. Otoh, your thinking is straightforward -- privates, like Manning, and smart guy IT technicians like Snowden - owe it to themselves to steal and publish thousands of pages of secrets - why? because, in their opinion, that is the right thing to do.

Anyway, IMHO, the IRS scandal is far more important. Using government employee thugs to scare people away from expressing their political views may not be sexy and high tech, but it is far more immediately damaging to our political culture - and to freedom.

Snowden was the best thing that could have happened to the corrupters of the IRS.
