He has already won: <I think that all of his options suck. > As he explained, when he made his decision, taking on the megalomaniac and criminal NSA-powered politicians and "security" apparatus of the USA, he was effectively ending his life [quite likely] and certainly as he knew it. His greatest fear was what? That's a test. It was not that the USA would manage to get him. He hoped that Hong Kong's people and government would give him asylum while he disclosed the crimes. But in discussions he decided that while Hong Kong might do so, it would be even better to try elsewhere. Or at least have some fun on the run, I guess.
Power is a fraud.
They only have power if you accept that they have power. All they can do is torture and kill and otherwise be really destructive. So defiance is a no-lose approach, as has been found in Afghanistan where the USA has been defeated and the USA is now surrendering to the Taleban having blown $trillions and suffered carnage among Americans. If 100,000 Americans carrying pitch-forks arrive in Pennsylvania Avenue, it's quite a problem, even if the armed constabulary are willing to murder them all. Power lasts only as long as They the People allow it. Threats of murder and actual murder have limited persuasive power.
Since Americans have the right to bear arms, and many of them do, it might be that with 100,000 rapid fire pitch-forks, the armed constabulary would lose.
Apparently Obama wants to disarm They the People [for their own safety of course]. And he wants Turnkey Tyranny. Where have we heard that before? He wants to get Edward Snowden. He authorizes himself to use drones against Americans. Is it a dead or alive poster he has posted?
Democracy is an interesting idea. At the next elections, will Americans proceed forthwith to Turnkey Tyranny, gathering, armed, on the plains of Pennsylvania Avenue to resolve their differences, or will they go the way of Rand Paul and Edward Snowden and climb back from on-coming catastrophe, reviving freedom and Virtuous Victorian Values in favour of They the People, perhaps even towards the standards offered by Hong Kong?
Judging by the commentary here, denigrating Edward, an armed convention on Pennsylvania Avenue is their preference. We the Bystanders will watch They the People sort it out with live ammunition. That is a no-win situation, akin to the French Revolution. Fiat currency does not do well in such situations.
Meanwhile, the USA has so little important business to be doing that John Kerry has plenty of time to pursue Edward. <http://www.foxnews.com/world/2013/06/25/kerry-says-us-not-looking-for-confrontation-with-russia-over-nsa-leaker-snowden/ Kerry said, "I would simply appeal for calm and reasonableness. We would hope that Russia would not side with someone who is 'a fugitive' from justice.' " kerry-says-us-not-looking-for-confrontation-with-russia-over-nsa-leaker-snowden/#ixzz2XEuzWwnQ > Funny. Did the USA for decades hand over Russians wanted by the Russian authorities? Kerry should be calm and reasonable and consider Edward's announcements and investigate crimes accordingly. Such as who was it who illegally spied on Hong Kong by breaking into their computers? And those at Tsinghua [where the NSA apparently thought terrorists were lurking]. Such as breaking the USA constitution. Has Kerry called for the impeachment of "Buck stops here" Obama in regard to IRS and NSA and They the People?
Kerry needs to have a nice cup of tea, calm down, breathe through his nose and be calm and reasonable. He could read Atlas Shrugged and see how to torture John Galt to get information he wants, such as the password to Edward's computer, which Edward perhaps has to get from a third party to access his own computer and the encryption keys too. Putin has perhaps already read it, Ayn Rand being a Russian emigre. Kerry could also read '1984'.
