True, but you might be better off not hearing the timely changes at all.

See Marketimer Income Portfolio Performance 2013 YTD
That calculation assumes he hasn't made any changes since January, which may not be true.

But it is interesting that I'm trying to do a similar study to see what buying and holding what he recommended in fixed income at the start of 2012 did compared to what he reported with his changes for the full year... at first look it seems the changes hurt his 2012 performance and hurt his 2013 performance compared to buy and hold what he had at the start of the year. With the apparent friendship/symbiotic relationship between Hulbert and the Brinkers, it is possible the observation that this performance hit compared to doing nothing is what promoted Hulbert to write that article in his latest newsletter (I subscribe to Hulbert just to keep track of what others are doing.)

So, you might be better waiting for the free advice.

Of course, we really need to look at a very long period. It is possible going forward he takes more risk now because very few will pay him to say "Buy CDs and put your money in a savings account here[ Best Savings Account Rate Survey ] that pays 0.85%" if they are only subscribing because of his income portfolio.
