Why would Zimmerman need to pick a fist fight if he's the one with the gun?
The prosecution would likely argue that Zimmerman felt like a "man" because he was carrying a gun. Hence he felt empowered to confront Treyvon knowing that if things went south, he could rely on his "insurance."

Even if that were true, I personally don't think it's sufficient to convict someone of 2nd degree murder. There would have to be more, such as arguing that Treyvon tried to avoid a confrontation but Zimmerman kept harassing him. And that's an argument that the defense can easily call B.S. on.

This really is an uphill battle for the prosecution, which is why I think they're trying to rely on shock and awe.
