It is almost ice free now during the summer, so what are you talking about? The pack ice has declined by about 80% since 1980.

Ships are using the northwest passage for the first time in history. Lots of ships and all countries are putting people to the north to fight for the resources.

If you go here and look at the top of the pack ice decline in recent years, it is startling. Having a decline a couple of standard deviations below the mean almost back to back (3 times since 07) should make your hair stand on end if you know what that means!!
