The reason the I/O can handle higher voltages is by circuit design.

Typically I/O transistors do not have minimum channel length transistors to be more robust for VCC, ESD, Latch up, Ground Bounce reasons.

The whole discussion on K6's reliability/power problems re specing devices from 3.2 to 3.3 V is BOGUS.

It is standard in the industry to perform life tests with the chip powered up and dynamically clocked at elevated temperatures duch as 125C or 150C for 1000's of hours.

This type of reliability testing ensures high reliability for 30+ years of continous use.

Major customers such as IBM/Compaq etc require this type of data before designing in ANY components.

Having said that AMD is a bad investment IMHO.

The Vantis products suck, and Flash products are probably unprofitable. They have consistently over-promised and underdelivered for DECADES not just last few months.

If AMD hits 10 then it may be a good investment.

PS.....I used to be a chip designer so I do know something about design/process issues.
