I usually hit people with my fists; my fingernails are not exposed. It's my knuckles that end up in contact, not my fingernails. And I recall that Martin had an injury to a knuckle. When I slap someone's head into concrete I use a palm or an open hand, there's no fingernail contact. My most vivid recollection for ending up with someone's DNA under my fingernail is from poking an eye out, but AFAIK, Zimmerman didn't have that injury.
