Stephen Elop receives the European Communication Award

Stephen Elop, chief executive officer of the Nokia Corporation, is the winner of this year’s European Communication Award 2013. The Award is presented every year by the European Association of Communication Directors (EACD) in a gala ceremony held at the European Communication Summit. It honours outstanding communications achievements on a European level, and is given to the individual or organisation whose communication efforts over the past year stand out on a European level.
Stephen Elop took on Nokia's CEO position in December 2010, replacing Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo and becoming the first non-Finnish director in Nokia's history. Stephen is recognized for his direct and transparent communication style, as evinced by his by-now famous “Burning Platform” memo. Stephen received the award in recognition of his unique communication style and commitment to which always puts his employees and customers opinions first.
In deciding the winner of the European Communications Award, he EACD invites members to contribute their input, draw on their communications expertise and decide upon the winner of the annual European Communication Award that annually marks the highlight of the European Communication Summit celebrations in Brussels. Previous winners include Marc Bolland, CEO of Marks and Spencer (2012), Peter Löscher, CEO of Siemens (2011), and Sergio Marchionne, CEO of Fiat (2010). |
