John,
You are absolutely right SASOL is not profittable, but their revenue is quite impressive from license and current works, in view of the stage they are in and I think they will do well in the future.

Terry,
An interesting idea,
However, the current 180 bbl per day plant shipped to India by RNTK and which is considered small is 150 ft long x 80 ft wide x 35 ft high in certain places.

The tankers come in sizes from 300ft to 600 ft long the super tankers with beam of 180 ft, draft of 33 ft or so with fulll balast capacities, so it can be done and have it float near the platform modules and receive the gas on the spot and process it out other end.

But what would be the benefit ?
All you will be saving is the transportation costs of the gas and the cost of capturing it, since land based wells will not need a floating plant. The whole idea is to capture the gas and convert it into liquids not to simplify the logistics process.

Meanwhile floating tanker will face;
-Full demurrage of $22 - 38,000 per day
-Full ships crew, plant crew payroll and mechanism with pssibility of failure
-Weather conditions (North Sea is not pretty in winter)
-Environmental hazzard
-The enormous cost of building such a floating plant
-Erosion and wear and tear, sea really gets to you ! Thats why tankers have such a short life span.
-Land service of such a flaot
Oh yes and hardship of the crew as well as whole bunch more ...
Joe
