... my guess is that it would still outsell the Pebble by a wide margin, even if it is as lame as you describe. I agree, but a $150 Pebble that is superb and on the market months before the iWatch is going to make it almost impossible for the iWatch to get the hype and love previous new devices received. Aside from clearly *not* being something new, It will be anti-climatic to say, upon release, "Here's the iWatch... it is about as good as the Pebble, doesn't allow you to change phone types, but has some nicer integration if you're already an Apple user... oh, and it costs 3x as much!"
I suspect iWatch will have some custom iPhone capabilities, like Siri integration, that will make it worth a premium price for iPhone users. Agreed on the additional integration, though for anyone who voice-assisted search is a primary selling point, Google Now is so far ahead of Siri that it would actually be a reason to buy the Pebble instead.
With the crazy run-up over the past few days based largely upon the iWatch expectations and some upgrades and positive opinions (all of which just translates to sentiment... not actual fundamental changes in their prospects), I added some short-term 420 puts to my holdings today when it was trading around. It could certainly keep running up on hype, but only so far... I think a near-term drop is more likely. |
