My guess is the iCheap phone will be underwhelming.

I mean why would apple make a phone that competes with the 5S? The iPad mini had much cheaper competitors and still did well. I think Apple learned from this but couldn't have done it any better anyhow.

The iCheap will be small, it won't have a lot of memory, but it will be desirable because of iOS and Apple's ecology. People who want the 5S will not compromise on a smaller device to save $200.

I'm cheap but not that cheap.

I'm not your average consumer, but my tendency if/when I do buy a phone is to buy one that will have some longevity and cost effectiveness over a its lifetime. Your average low budget consumer might not consider cost effectiveness but people with money definitely will consider what their time is worth and how much the product costs on a daily basis over its lifetime.

There is also speculation that it won't be released immediately in the US or other 1st world markets. I don't believe that. Consumers would be pissed, too much bad publicity. But there is no reason Apple could not release it in the 3rd world and make supplies in 1st world countries... "constrained."
