Brumar is always ready to deny facts to make a point. The hysteria around the crusades was a big money maker for western economies. Priests would line up along the road to "eat the sins" for a fee from the eager crowds going to Jerusalem. The driving force of the crusades was for the powers that be to add new properties to their estates. Flooding the area with surplus population eager to die was alright for them to do as Brumar and Greg have pointed out, the leaders they were appointed by God and the bible teaches people have to submit.
