The Egyptians have no experience with free elections and democracy. They freely elected Morsi. Here, we know if you get a leader you don't like or agree with, you work to depose him, and know no matter what happens, you'll only be stuck with him for eight years at most. Americans have made this bargain.
The Egyptians have no experience of this, and have made the mistake (IMHO) of begging the military to remove him, which they have done. It will work as long as an enlightened military works for the people, but they may end up with a military puppet/dictator yet again.
It would have been MUCH better if Morsi had been removed by some political process, recall, impeachment, a vote of no confidence, etc. I don't know what the Egyptian constitution allows. |
