David very good points you make. With the standards issue worked out it throws the 56K war into a completely new phase as I see it. One where each side must fight different battles on new battlefields. Rockwell & Lucent..even TI will be moved out of the forefront and modem makers will come to the leading and most visible positions, those being ZOOM, BOCA, Hayes, DIMD and many others...along with 3Com/USR.

The x2 protocol seems to be very well perfected AND adaptable to whatever the ITU-T standard will be. Lucent will do okay, but those who rely on Rockwells protocol could suffer yet another set back. I base that on what you and other have unveiled and reported for quite sometime, AND....Ascend has recently admitted to. That is they have been and still are having big trouble getting their 56K cards working at their ISP customers locations. One of the three or four problems which they are having is overheating, overheating to such a degree that in numerous reported cases it has results in fires.

I'll be staying on the sidelines and watching Zoom.

Seasons Greetings,
