Dear All,

China imported 126.9 tons gold in May 2013 through HK, 1.2tons more than last month. However Hong Kong imported only 20.9tons gold from China. As a result, the China net imports were 106 tons for May.

For quick reference, pls refer to pages 64 & 474 under cat. 97101 for the quantity of export and re-export of Gold to China from Hong Kong.

On the other hand, Hong Kong imported 232.3 tons gold & gold coins from China this year, this means China net imports were 392.3tons ( 624.6t - 232.3t ).
The historical gold & gold coins( cat. 97101 & 98002 ) imports from China to HK were :

2012 309.4 tons
2011 95.3 tons
2010 29.1 tons
2009 14.5 tons
2008 15.2 tons
2007 5.5 tons
2006 10.0 tons

Y-T-May, Hong Kong imported 273.9 tons gold from Switzerland, 62.2 tons gold from South Africa, 26.5 tons gold from Australia, 62.7 tons gold from USA and a huge % increase from UK to 41.5t ( a surge of 32.3tons in May alone ).
