The problem is that IRS *DID* single out organizations -- and the Benen bullshit doesn't change that. The fact that there were a few organizations other than GOP organizations who were singled out doesn't in any way alter the underlying issue, which is that IRS should be even-handed in performing these functions.

The facts in this case ought to be highly disturbing to every American. If a president can use the IRS against his political opponents, we are one step closer to dictatorship. And any rational person can see that's precisely what was done.

You have a president meeting with lower-level IRS employees who were overseeing this operation. Not once, but time and again -- while we don't know what was said in the meetings and never will, do we just presume that these meetings didn't involve pressure to deliver particular results? I don't think so. We have the president, inexplicably, meeting with the head to the Treasury employees union. THAT is bizarre. And we have the promotion and huge bonus payments to one of the key persons involved with this mess.

When combined with the other corrupt practices utilized by this president, it ought to be everyone's concern. None of it, mind you is as concerning as the gross incompetence of Obama or, for example, the administration's destruction of the best health care system in the world. But it is serious business that ought to be properly investigated.
