Converting Hi8 video tapes to a PC

I have a large collection of (obsolete) Hi8 video tapes I want to covert to a PC format (e.g. avi) for transfer to a DVD. I do not have my original camera. According to my research, there is no self-contained hardware device I can buy to do the job (like there is to convert cassette tapes or records). The closest hardware solution is to buy a used
(10+ year old technology) Sony Digital 8 camcorder that supports both analog and digital playback, specifically a TRV 350, 460, or 480. I would then connect the device to my PC using a Firewire connection. [An alternative, but not a viable one, would be to buy any Hi8 camcorder along with a Dazzle or Roxio device that converts to digital over a (slow) USB connection.]

Therefore, unless anyone knows of a better hardware solution, I am wondering if anyone has a Sony TRV 350, 460 or 480 in their closet gathering dust they would give or sell to me to do the job? Thanks.

- Jeff
