As is so often the case, this is going to come down to "burden of proof". Once Zim introduced evidence of his self-defense claim, which there was quite a bit of I think, the burden of proof is on the prosecution to show, beyond a reasonable doubt, that it was NOT self defense. At least that is my understanding.

That is a very tough burden to meet under any circumstances. But there was quite a bit of evidence that it WAS self defense.

Given that standard, I cannot imagine how he'll be convicted. He may well spend years defending himself in a civil action; but there is no way he should be convicted in this criminal trial.
