I just had a fellow (who is fairly new in our area) come into my office on an unrelated matter, but, during the course of our conversation, he asked me why his son (who graduated from high school last June) has to pay county earned income tax, when he is also paying federal income tax.

I explained to him that federal funds do not provide for the administration of county government, public safety, health related services, parks, library services, the maintenance of county roads, etc. He looked at me, in all seriousness, and said, 'We need someone on the local level who provides services as well as Barack Obama does on the federal level.'

I told him that, if his son is paying county income tax, he must be paying it as well. Turns out that he hasn't worked in more than four years, and is on some kind of assistance. When I suggested that the lack of jobs may be related to Barack Obama's economic policies, he would hear none of it. The economy is as it is as a residual effect of George Bush's policies.

As an elected official, I cannot get into political arguments with township residents, but I certainly wish I had met this fellow at the grocery store, or somewhere else outside of my office. We would have had at it until he wanted to call it quits.

I have an unresolved-stupidity headache.
