You are posting 20/20 hindsight. We had no idea Hitler would be defeated before either country got the bomb.

What if we had not gotten the nuclear bomb and Germany had??

We had to go balls to the wall to try and develop it.

It added to our safety and only a big government could do that and actually fight the war.

Look at what FDR did? He mobilized the entire nation to fight Hitler. And he did it amazingly fast.
