I know it is the territory of "whack jobs" and "lunatic wingers".

But I continue to believe there is something wrong with the picture on the Birther situation and it is important and should be the subject of congressional hearings. The fact is that Obama claimed he was "Kenyan born" for some 15 years (that we know of; could be longer). Whether the dummied up birth certificate is proof of that is another matter -- it may just be proof of a dummied up birth certificate.

But it is not too much to ask that any presidential candidate produce evidence that he or she meets the constitutional requirements of the office. In this particular instance, his parents had every motivation to get him classified as natural born citizen. Hawaii would have been the ideal place to make this happen at the time; and the entire thing could have been handled by slipping someone a 20 in the hospital. The out of sequence numbering of his birth certificate, whether or not faked, presents a problem. You don't serialize important documents then just act like misnumbering is routine affair, and Obama's is definitely out of sequence with other kids purported to have been born around the same time.

There is just too much wrong and the potential for it to create great problems for the country is too great for it to be ignored. Were it to turn out, 10 years from now, that Obama did NOT meet those requirements, we'd be facing a constitutional crisis like none the country has seen before. And 60 years from now historians will still be trying to figure out whether Obama was a legitimate president or not. Why not resolve it now?
