As I mentioned before, I got the Elgato video capture USB device from Fry's a couple of days ago. I'm happy with it. I added an S-video cable, but it really wasn't necessary. It can be done just using RCA cables.

I understand the loss of a generation going from analog to digital, but if the input was halfway decent, the result is good enough to live with. The tapes I have are mostly of family events.

What I find challenging is editing out people who are no longer welcome and nobody wants to see again. Lots of ways to do that but it's time-consuming.
