I do quite a bit of A1 size printing of plans and I can get that done locally for a very low price in black and white and on an immediate basis by printing specialists. Colour prints are much more expensive through.

Canon do make an economical A3 size printer, and I am thinking of using one to make colour prints. Its to be used for simple plans in colour though, not artwork.

A four page poster printout of A3 would make an A1 sheet, and I would have to tape the seams. It would be a CISS system of course.

I have to wonder why the printer companies make such stoopit wee ink cartridges in the first place. No end of hassle and expense. I haven't had to touch my printer this year for ink. Several thousand printed pages to date.
