Bill, it sounds like you don't have the First Aid Deluxe version which
came out in April. Go to Cybermedia's web page and read about it.

That version ties you into the internet, automatically updating the
knowledge base as new fixes and updates on various major
software packages come out. The "fix it" program then takes
care of updating your system. Hence, the "breakthrough"
product that you refer to is already in the PTEC/Cybermedia
package going to NEC/Packard Bell and soon others.

Please don't underestimate Cybermedia's product or its time
lead over the competitors. One could reasonably say that
SYSF saw Cybermedia's concept and liked it and is trying to
copy it. They've repackaged the idea a little to make everyone
think that their knowledge bases are more comprehensive and
somehow they have some exclusivity. I just can't believe that.
Now with the Phoenix/Cybermedia alliance, SYSF has no OEM
channel advantage at all.

You're right, there is probably room for First Aid, SysWiz, and
Quarterdeck/Verisoft's product. Microsoft has been building
their own "call avoidance" software that they claim cuts down
Win95 calls by 16% and will be improved in Office 97 and it
doesn't even do many of the fancy things these other packages
do (Sept. 2, Infoworld).
