Steve, No Saphy in PC Quote database. Still getting bad data, and they're gone for the weekend. It's ok, I can use some time away from the keyboard.

Re: fair value. There has been lots of discussion of this concept especially on 12/4 over at Tech Options. Patrick Stewart always watches the spread between SPZ and SPX and uses it as a micro timing device it seems, but not a basis to trade on. Here's a site he gave me that gives fair value everyday and the levels at which large buy or sell programs are expected to be triggered. programtrading.com

Different quote services have different symbols for the spread. PREM is one, $SPS is the PCQuote symbol.

I've been watching this closely and so far haven't found much use for it as far as SPY goes. It's so volatile, and when the readings get extreme, the damage is already done. It might be very useful as part of a system for daytrading stocks that are part of the S&P500 though. I'll still be watching it this week and reading Patrick's and HL Camp's comments.
