The basic facts of the case make a manslaughter conviction the minimal likely outcome.

That Zimmerman shot and killed Martin is not in doubt.

With that said, the burden of proof falls on Zimmerman, not the prosecution; one cannot kill a witness and then have one's vindication rest upon one's own description of events.

Zimmerman has the burden of proof. This may seem odd, but it is true given the facts. Martin was not looking for trouble; Zimmerman was. And Martin ended up dead.

Zimmerman will most certainly get manslaughter.
