I think you are speculating as to how things went down based on the defendant's version of the facts. No, there was a credible witness and there was a bunch of physical evidence, not to mention Zimmerman's stellar character and Trayvon's poor character. With the revocation of this duty to retreat by the "stand your ground laws", it is more likely, IMHO, that these type of ambiguous situations that lead to deaths will increase rather than decrease. Not a good thing. The primary danger in this case is that the media have so distorted the facts that a great many dumb people now think that you can kill someone for sport and claim self-defense.
