If Zim had just left his gun in his vehicle, no one would have died. If he'd identified himself as neighborhood watch, no one would have died. If he'd shown his gun, walked up to Martin with his gun out, no one would have died.

Perhaps let the gun nuts walk around with their guns, but make it illegal for them to be concealed? Make them wear them exposed. Then, you'd at least know who to avoid. Martin would probably be alive.
