The insistence of the liberal establishment to make this the modern platform for civil rights activism risks rendering the term "civil rights" meaningless. I have felt from the beginning that this will do more harm than good to the civil rights movement.

The purpose of pressing for change in laws related to civil rights is to improve the legal rights of oppressed groups. There are many instances of civil rights violations committed by white people against black people that deserving of attention and which have potential to improve conditions for minority groups in America. This is not one of them.
