NYC was such a great place back in the 50's and 60's as your income went a heck of a lot further than today plus you already had the transportation network in place back then

What's happening in NYC is that Manhattan has become pretty much unaffordable for most New Yorkers. However, what's also happening is that areas of Brooklyn and Queens and even the Bronx that were previously not safe to live in are becoming desirable. Have you seen what's happening in Williamsburg......as just one of many examples? Even the Bronx is seeing an increase in investment and homes there are very affordable by NY standards.
