They got it through investing, starting or expanding businesses, working as a highly compensated employee, transfers from other rich people (primarily inheritance or gifts from living relatives) etc. Very few of them got it from transfers from the not rich. They may have sold items to the non-rich but that's exchange, not a one-way transfer.
