I have heard that large steel and aluminum corporations from across the globe have requested samples of ZEN's ore to test, and they obviously fully understand the isotropy issue, so I am not ready to write that market segment off yet. From memory this is one of the application areas that Sri Lankan hydrothermal is used in. Although not in quantity as they can only produce 5000 tonnes of hydrothermal per year.
Perhaps more interesting to me is the sample requests from some of the world's largest semi conductor centered firms. This in my mind is more exciting than even the steel and aluminum industries. Then there is the nuclear industry to consider. I have some background in semi conductor materials and physics, quantum physics and semi conductor design among other related disciplines.
I don't have any company names to share, as i don't feel it's appropriate to do so, and as all of this request info, I have, has come from talking to third parties.
One thing i do know is that the company intends to sign non disclosure agreements with everyone receiving samples and i strongly suspect that they will be restricted from publishing individual company names.
With respect to volume samples, ZEN is using a large diameter drill this year so that they can supply decent sized samples to the companies they feel are a good fit for the product. The commercial entities that receive samples will be decided after ZEN gets the pending reports back in from the independent testing facilities.
I think you would be well advised to talk to the company yourself as well as companies like Roth Capital and Briscoe along with any brokerage contacts that you may have. Talking to flake companies and synthetic graphite suppliers may give you biased opinions, but probably worthwhile if you are good at reading between the lines.
