Aloha, thanks for the link. I am unimpressed by the analysts. I remember the QDEK conference after the Future Labs acquisition. One guy was saying how great the Future Labs buy was. He totally missed the effect of freebies from Intel and Microsoft. None of the analyst guessed what Windows 95 and the memory price collapse would do to QEMM 97. They should have been better since this is what they do for a living. So I do my own analysis now. They don't even follow Quarterdeck. They follow the crowd.
Jack, your points are vaild. Symantec is a force to be reckoned with. Its UnInstaller will get its share. Don't sell Quarterdeck's brand recognition short, though. CleanSweep 3.0 was the world's #1 uninstaller before the CyberMedia UnInstaller 4.5 release. CleanSweep Deluxe will get its upgrades and new sales. QDEK has a lead in overseas markets, too.
RealHelp is real different in many ways than Norton. Also, Norton has appeal to experts and RealHelp should get a different user base. The fact that Microsoft gave TuneUP.com a link for technical support from its new Computer WebSite should be a major plus for Quarterdeck's reputation as the Computer Help Company. This will translate into sales if QDEK plays its hand right.
Finally, Quarterdeck will grab marketshare from Symantec and McAfee with its ViruSweep release. The technology licensed from EliaShim is excellent. It is fast and accurate at finding viruses.
When they do a WebCompass 3.0, probably in the 2nd quarter, if it is good, it will be a market leader. With CleanSweep Deluxe, RealHelp, ProComm 32, TuneUp, ViruSweep, WebCompass 3.0, and QEMM 97 there is a stable of front runners. Add a solid Zip-it, Rapid Remote, Partition-It Deluxe, Select-it, and you have a much better group than what it had in 95.
Who knows what surprises Microsoft has in windows 98 but I don't think QDEK is in the way like it was for Windows 95, Front Page, Microsoft Servers, Explorer, and all the free internet phones and white boards.
So, maybe I am wrong but I am not listening to any analysts anymore, I do my own homework. I love what Hessler is doing so far. He is focusing the company, divesting what does not fit and challenging market leaders again. The convertible solution saved QDEK from chapter 11 and, as Dwight foresaw, is a cross we will have to bear until March. However, unless there is a dark surprise I am missing, this company has turned the corner and when the analysts catch on the price will be higher.
At 1 13/16 we, the small public buyers, can spread the word, buy some products because they are good, and benefit from catching the train as it leaves the station. I warn my freinds life has no guarantees but at this price you can pick up a position that is exciting to have when you are proved right. There is nothing like a hot stock that you own and calculate every point at $1,000 or $10,000 for you. You can lose sure, but we all end up dust anyway. But don't listen to me because I am a QDEKAHOLIC. |
