Maybe some of us were born 'in a stew of problems"........., but The trajectory of American blacks prior to LBJ was favorable. Something changed, and I'm convinced it was mostly imposition of a culture of dependency with consequent loss of grit. The few can triumph, but it's tougher under certain circumstances.
First it was done mostly to the blacks, and few knew, or cared. Now the disease is spreading and old virtues, once honored if only in the breach, are disappearing, unknown or forgotten.
The race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, neither yet bread to the wise, nor yet riches to men of understanding, nor yet favour to men of skill; but..........that's sure to hell the way you want to lay your odds. |
