A few months ago I guy I rode with preached the virtue of carrying extra cleat screws. I had never had a problem in years of wearing cleats so I ignored it. Yesterday, of course, about 1/3 into a ride, my cleat comes loose on one shoe. Good thing was, I was not far from a bike shop. Bad news is they had no screws that would fit. I had to limp home and go to a hardware store later to match the screw and buy a dozen, a few of which will get stashed in my carrier bag for the next time.
