Nope. We were hunter-gathers starting with Australopithicus. Hunter-gatherers are grouped into bands. Typically the females and children stay at the camp and gather nuts, berries, tubers, etc. The males go hunting. Everyone shares and shares alike because resources are scarce and hoarding can mean some will die that would not otherwise. And that threatens the band. The penalty for hoarding is to be kicked out of the band. And that is a death sentence. So there is always a reluctance to do so.

Unfortunately, the sociopath genes can confer advantages. So some are always going to hoard, try to establish power over others, pretend to be sick so they can spread their genes among the women and work on various schemes to get more for themselves at the expense of others. They were able to get away with it not because they were more clever than everyone like they told themselves, but because of the reluctance to impose a death sentence. But, sooner or later the band would get tired of him railing against the socialism of the band and everyone should take personal responsibility and stop mooching off the work of others (entirely missing the irony of no one mooches more than he does) and give him an opportunity to stand on his own two feet and be self-reliant by booting hik from the band. He would then start waiting about being the victim of reverse discrimination and how the liberal media is biased against him. Usually by then, his wailing has attracted a saber-toothed tiger who drags him off to a nearby cave.

Unfortunately, proto-republicans were so full of shit that the tiger usually died. Now they're extinct and we are stuck with the likes of you...
