AFAIK, the US does not pay to support families of killed members of the military. The life insurance policies (in my son's case, it was $400,000, but perhaps it is different for other soldiers) have already been disbursed and included in the total cost of ~1.5 Trillion. The medical care will be an ongoing cost, but the variable portion of it is a relatively small amount of money, estimated at 500B over that 50 year period. That is a cost of war that must be paid, and it is a legitimate disbursement from tax revenue.
