Yes, in the "nature vs nurture" issue I suspect that although we know the environment during development is important I think we don't know HOW important it really is.

It is because of the realization that environment during upbringing is important that laws favoring African Americans were put into place... to try and augment or jumpstart their ability to make a place for themselves in society... since they CERTAINLY were "swimming upstream" as far as what we think of as fitting into society in the U.S.
