Because that is the only "get ahead" future they can imagine. They never had fathers (or "villages" instead of "projects" who went off to jobs (ala Michell Robinson nee Obama whose father trudged down to the Chicago waste water facility everyday.)

Do you know what funds the gangs that operate in the Western US? Drugs. In the 1990s, the major gangs in LA set up branch operations in all the major cities of the West..........from Phoenix to Seattle. They have set up a network with branch offices just like any other major corp. And they distribute their drugs they get from Mexico throughout that network. That's their 'work'. That's the 'job' they go off to do.

And there is big money to be had.........its why so many gang members have new cars.

There is a male role model in the ghettos and barrios...........its the gang member.
