| | | I had a few conversations on SI about Snowden, comparing him with Daniel Ellsberg. Regardless whether you approve of what Ellsberg did, at least he was man enough to stand trial. He was lucky - prosecutors screwed up or something and he was acquitted. BUT he didn't know that this was going to happen. He was fully prepared to get locked up for a very long time. He was willing to pay the price. He says the thought of leaving the country hadn't crossed his mind.
This Snowden fellow, OTOH, runs to China, Russia, there is talk of Venezuela... All such places, with a far cleaner individual rights record (sure thing) than the US. And this great truth seeker, reportedly, hasn't (publicly) disclosed the juiciest information, hiding it as personal "insurance" for his cute little self.
In short, I'm glad these controversies were brought to the public's attention, but I'm no admirer of that chap. |
