I think there are plenty of headwinds, as most will acknowledge. I'm still of the opinion that weakness in China, if moderate, is a very good thing for the long term. 7% growth is sustainable for a while, 9% or double digit is not. So I'm encouraged by weakness there. Europe, in the short term, is key to keep the trend going up. We got better news out of them today and we need incrementally better numbers from them going forward. We can't afford them to take another large step backwards. Too many US companies depend on them and so do the Chinese.

I personally think too many companies use healthcare as an excuse. I was the controller/CFO of a small company (60 employees) and so I know the issues with healthcare first hand. While a major concern for budgeting, it's more important to show employees what they are getting with health plans. When this is done properly, and when you show employees that this is a very large portion of their overall compensation, you are actually able to work with your staff when price increases from your healthcare limit the ability to give out raises.

Too many "upper management" types are in Ivory towers. They get bad advice and follow it. They see healthcare as this evil. It's usually manageable but it's also hard work to weigh all the issues.
