5Y charts: gdx vs. gold, GDXJ, GG, NEM, ABX, EGO, GORO:

patterns:
1. miners are more volatile in both directions than gold
2. when both are going down, gold outperforms; true in 2008 and since late 2010
3. when both are going up, miners outperform at first (from the late 2008 bottom till late 2009)
4. when gold keeps going up, while mining stocks have stalled, it's time to get out of both.
5. if I insist on holding through a downturn, it's better to hold gold and big-cap low-debt miners like GG
6. juniors offer the most opportunity to make and lose money
7. the recent break above the 10week (= 50day) moving average on many of the charts is a bullish sign
(charts should keep current; I'll be referring to it repeatedly)
