Z might well know someone who knows the Westboro church family. There's only a few members, they're all members of one family, and the family has a history of involvement in Democratic party politics. Fred Phelps Jr - the head of the family was a big Al Gore supporter:

Fred Phelps Jr was invited to the first Clinton inaguaral ball. In 1992, Phelps got 31% of the vote in the Democratic primary election for the US Senate. Phelps law firm specialized in civil rights cases and received awards from the NAACP. During the Reagan adminstration he sued unsuccessfully to block appointment of an ambassador to the Vatican.

Maybe he is what he seems to be or the whole thing could be some big disinformation campaign.

He was a big supporter of Saddam Hussein and a few members of the family traveled to Iraq in the period leading up to the Iraq war to demonstrate against the US.
....

Prominent examples include President Ronald Reagan, Princess Diana, Supreme Court Chief Justice William Rehnquist, National Football League star Reggie White, Sonny Bono, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, atheists, Muslims, murdered college student Matthew Shepard, the late children's television host Fred Rogers, the late Australian actor Heath Ledger, Comedy Central's Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert, political commentator Bill O'Reilly, Jews, [44] Catholics, Australians, [57] Swedes, the Irish and US soldiers killed in Iraq. He has also targeted the Joseph Estabrook Elementary School in Lexington, Massachusetts, center of the David Parker controversy. In 2006, they planned a protest at the funeral for the murdered children of the West Nickel Mines School, but called it off, opting to spread their messages on a local radio station instead. [58] In 2007 he stated that he would target the late Jerry Falwell's funeral. [59]
