We tried that before social security and medicare and welfare.. it didn't work. And would work a hell of a lot less today. 50% of all people live alone these days. The days of the nuclear family, per se, are gone----forever. We hippies used ot make fun of the right wign for their naïve idea of the "Horatio Alger philosophy". It was dead wrong and went against every bit of social science there is. We live in an existential world today and an existential world requires a strong education and sophisticated social system. Not tired old ideology. <,I believe the right says pull yourselves up by your own bootstraps. I at least acknowledge we should be spending hundreds of billions of dollars in rebuilding infrastructure in our decaying urban areas. Talk about a a revitalization and multiplier effect on so many levels. As to welfare/food stamps, section 8 housing they should all be dismantled. I feel we must assist our children, the elderly,the sick and the disabled when needed.
