koan, I agree with you. We elected Obama to stand up for civil and social liberties, like the typical Democrat would. Often, I wonder if he's not a GOP member in Democratic clothing. He's confused the Democratic base, because we aren't supposed to criticize the party we voted for. In addition, he says all the right things, but in many cases, his actions are very similar to Bush Jr's. On top of it, I voted for him, because I hated Bush Jr's Constitutional abuses and I figured that Obama, a Constitutional Law Professor, would be a defender of the Constitution. However, with the Patriot Act and the FISA laws, I warned this thread many, many times that we would see abuses from those laws. The government always abuses laws that step on our Constitutional rights. Then all the sudden we all get surprised by all the spying on American citizens that is going on by the NSA. This was inevitable. Why is Obama supportive of all these Constitutional abuses? It doesn't make any sense. His background speeches told us he would have made far different choices than he has.
You are right. Obama has turned his back on typical Democratic ideals and I think we're worse off for it. I'm actually looking forward to voting for Hillary in the next election. I don't think anyone can beat her, if she decides to run. The GOP is a dead party and they have no leader who can beat Hillary.
So here's to the optimism that maybe we get the Clintons back. I'd much rather have sexual scandals in the White House, than a White House that openly engages in crony-capitalism with the bankers and tramples on our Constitutional rights on a daily basis. So if the GOP catches President Bill Clinton with another girl, while Hillary is President, then I'll salute her. :) Long live the Clintons. At least those were good economic times with a peace dividend to boot. Those were truly Golden Years. |
