my understanding is she only raised him till the age of 3......when she divorced the birth father who took custody. He was raised from 3 to 15 by his stepmother..........then when his birth father divorced the step mother, Trayvon got thrown back to the birth mother. His behavior deteriorated dramatically (in two years) after returning to the birth mother until she threw him out. I believe the step mother was purposely kept out of all proceedings................seems clear why.
